Medical writing in Argentina

1 min read

Medical writing in Argentina encompasses professional recognition, training and scientific-communication work.

Recognition and opportunities

In 2017, an Argentine writer described few local opportunities despite a significant pharmaceutical industry and several contract research organisations: most people did not know medical writing, and those who did outsourced it abroad. She was the first Argentine to join EMWA and planned to promote medical writing in South America in collaboration with a Colombian colleague.

Training and scientific communication

Unable to find medical-writing or scientific-editing courses in Argentina, especially in English, the writer combined EMWA conference workshops with AMWA’s self-study Essential Skills certificate. She subsequently offered scientific-communication training at private centres, biomedical organisations and universities for people unable to travel abroad for high-quality workshops. English-language limitations and the absence of appropriate communication training in science and healthcare curricula often hindered scientific communication in Argentina.
